Software User's Guide. How to use the P-touch Editor for Mac. Brother P-touch-P-touch Editor 5.0. When P-touch Editor is launched, the New/Open dialog box appears, allowing you to choose whether you want to create a new label layout or open an existing label. The following versions: 5.1, 5.0 and 4.2 are the most frequently downloaded ones by the program users. The Brother P-touch Editor installer is commonly called Ptedit50.exe, Ptedit42.exe, ContMgr.exe, Ptedit40.exe or Ptedit41.exe etc. The latest version of the program can be installed on PCs running Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10, 32-bit.
You can download and install the latest version of the software from the [Downloads] section of this website.
To install the software from the CD-ROM, follow the steps below:
<For USB interface users>
- Insert the installer CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click the [Start Here OSX] icon. Available items:Start Here OSX

- After the installation is completed, press the ON/OFF button of the machine to turn on the power.
- Click [Apple menu] - [System Preferences] - [Print & Fax] / [Print & Scan] / [Print & Scanners].
- Click the [+] button.
- Click the [+] button and choose 'Brother QL-XXX' from the list, and then click [Add] to add the printer.
<For wired network interface users (QL-720NW only)>

- Click [Apple menu] - [System Preferences] - [Print & Fax] / [Print & Scan] / [Print & Scanners].
- Choose 'Brother QL-XXX' from the list and click [Add] to add the printer.
- Choose IP from the [Protocol:] pull-down menu.
Enter the IP address of the printer into the Address box.
Choose 'Brother QL-XXX' from the list and click [Add] to add the printer.
- Insert the installer CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click the [Utilities] folder, and then click [Wireless Device Setup Wizard].
- Choose [Yes, I have a USB cable to use for installation], and then click [Next].
- Temporarily connect the USB cable directly to the computer and the printer and then click [Next].
- The wizard will search for wireless networks available from your printer.
Choose the SSID and click [Next].- If the list is blank, check that the access point is turned on and is broadcasting the SSID, and then see if the printer and the access point are within range for wireless communication.
Then click [Refresh]. - If your access point is set not to broadcast the SSID, you can enter the SSID manually by clicking the [Advanced] button.
Follow the on-screen instructions for entering the Name (SSID), and then click [Next].
- If the list is blank, check that the access point is turned on and is broadcasting the SSID, and then see if the printer and the access point are within range for wireless communication.
- Enter the Network Key and then click [Next].If your network is not configured for authentication and encryption, the ATTENTION! screen will appear.
To continue configuration, click [OK]. - Confirm the wireless network settings and then click [Next].
The settings will be sent to your printer. - Disconnect the USB cable connecting the computer and the printer and then click [Next].
- Choose the printer from the list, and then click [Next].
- If your wireless settings fail, the [Wireless Device Setup Wizard] screen appears.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the wireless configuration. - If you are using WEP but your printer is not found, make sure you entered the WEP key correctly.
- If your wireless settings fail, the [Wireless Device Setup Wizard] screen appears.
- The installation of the Brother drivers will automatically start.
When the screen for the online user registration is displayed, click [OK] or [Cancel]. - Click [Finish].
- Is the printer driver properly installed?
Open the 'Setup Utility / Print Center' and then check if the printer driver for your P-touch has been registered.
<Using the screen of the QL-570 as an example>
If proper printer driver is not listed, install the printer driver again. You may need to uninstall the old software before installing.Uninstalling the Printer Driver
- Turn off the Brother printer.
- For Mac OS X 10.4.11
Double-click the drive where Mac OS X is installed, and click [Applications]- [Utility (Utilities)] - [Printer Setup Utility (Print Center)].
The [Printer List] dialog box appears.
For Mac OS X 10.5.x - 10.7
Click Apple menu - [System Preferences], and click [Print & Fax]. - For Mac OS X 10.4.11
Select your printer model such as 'Brother QL-500/550/650TD/1050/1050N', and click
(Delete)
For Mac OS X 10.5.x - 10.7
Select your printer model such as 'Brother QL-500/550/650TD/1050/1050N', and click
(Delete) - Close the [Printer List]/[Print & Fax] dialog box.
The printer driver has been uninstalled.
- Turn off the Brother printer.
- Is the correct printer selected?
Select the 'Printer Setup' from the 'File' menu.
Check if your P-touch/QL machine is selected under 'Application Matching Printer'. - Is your P-touch/QL printer directly connected to the Mac's USB Port?
You should not use the USB ports on the Mac keyboard. When connecting your P-touch to the Mac via a USB hub, a proper connection may not be possible due to the type of hub being used.
